· Chief Instructor :
Charles Gidley, 6th Dan, RSA NVQ Assessor, HBC, IIST, IIHHT, ICHFST, ICHT

SenseiGidley, is a highly acclaimed Shotokan instructor.  He is accepted as being one of the foremost Shotokan stylists in Britain today havingtrained for nearly 37 years under some of the mostrenowned Japanese and British instructors.  His high standard andin-depth knowledge of traditional Shotokan is widely recognised both withinthe UK as well as internationally. It is suggested that Sensei Gidley isone of the top instructors in Europe for teaching Kata and Bunkai. He has in-depth anatomical knowledge and is a fully qualified Reflexologist,Body Massage Therapist, and holds a further qualification in Remedial SportsInjury Therapy, he is extremely innovative in his approach and much respectedfor his teaching.
Sensei Gidley has taught and refereedin Europe and Asia on more than a few occasions and has been honored by the Rumanian Shotokan Karate Association and their national squad as beingone of the best instructors they had trained with to date.
He has produced top kumite and kata exponents who have had marked success at National, European and World Championship’s.
A recent triumph was seeing his students,that were invited to the JKA European Championship’s, take 2nd place inthe men’s team event, 3rd place in the ladies team kumite and 2nd place individual male kumite in Holland during 1997.
The first British karateka to be awardedthe right to assess NVQ’s in karate by the RSA, Sensei Gidley is an E.K.G.B. accepted independent NVQ assessor and therefore gives the B.S.K. the ability to carry out in house NVQ assessments.

· Chairman :
Sensei Robert Maher 5th Dan

SenseiMaher has been training in karate for 25 years, he has been a student ofSensei Charles Gidley since 1976.  He was a member of the KUGB England Squad and represented his country on a number of occasions.  He hasbeen a member of the B.S.K.’s British Squad with many international honors to his credit.  A former police officer and Captain of the PoliceFederation’s national team, Sensei Maher is now a qualified sociologistfrom Manchester University working as a Counselor.
As an instructor, Bob has taught outsidethe UK several times.  His kumite experience and his karate abilityis well sought after.  He is renowned for the speed and accuracy ofhis kicking techniques which have stood him in good stead in many a tournamentsituation.  Sensei Maher holds a 5th Dan in Shotokan Karate and hasbeen B.S.K. Chairman since 1996 having filled the post of Vice-Chairmanfor 5 years previously.

· Vice Chairman :
Sensei Ian Burndred 5th Dan

SenseiBurndred is seen as one of the UK’s top karate-ka.  He has been trainingin Shotokan for a period of 25 years, since 1974.  From the ages of18 through 21 he was a member of the KUGB’s under 21 national squad wherehe fought for his country on a number of occasions.
His knowledge of both kata and kumitemakes him an excellent instructor with the standard of his techniques beingvery sharp and fast.  Once again we have an instructor who is constantlya favorite of both the students and instructors alike.  He has heldthe position of Technical Officer for 3 years to becoming Vice-Chairmanof the B.S.K. in 1996.
 

· Technical Director :
Sensei Ian Newsham 4th Dan

Hasbeen training in karate since 1978, a period of 21 years.  A member of the KUGB’s under 21 national squad for 3 years where he was considered to be a karate-ka with a tournament future.
Sensei Newsham was captain of the Britishteam which came 2nd in the JKA’s European Championships and came 2nd intheir senior individual kumite.
A renowned British fighter and instructor,he has been  sought after by students from both inside and outsidethe B.S.K. for his particular form of tuition.  Sensei Newsham hasheld the post of Technical Director of the B.S.K. since 1994.

· Technical Director :
Sensei Marc Leacock 5th Dan

SenseiLeacock has been training in Shotokan since 1980, a period of over 19 yearsunder the tuition of Sensei Gidley. He has been a kumite champion in manynational and international karate tournaments in the last few years.
Marc is seen as one of the B.S.K.’s foremost fighters while holding the position of assistant coach to the B.S.K.’s national squad.
He was involved in the training of theinternational teams (senior male, female and children) and the individualswho had reached the JKA’s semi-finals in Europe.  Sensei Leacock isalways concerned with bringing up junior members within the squad and runsspecial training sessions, along with Sensei Newsham, for the childrenwithin the organisation.
Marc holds the position of Technical Director within the B.S.K.
 
 

  SenseiGidley and all the above Karate-ka are internationally recognised by theW.K.F (World Karate Federation) and have trained with the worlds top instructors to include the senior JKA instructors.  Their knowledge base and teaching easily reflect this and can be seen in their normal instruction and training regime.
